Using code to keep diary
James Malbone wrote in a leather bound journal after being wounded at the Battle of Chancellorsville. He recorded daily life and gossips. Some of the writing was written in code. The code was broken recently by a computer science professor. It showed that he wrote about his affair with Confederate President Jefferson Davis's wife. Generals checked their dairies every week, so he might have to write these down in code, in order to prevent further trouble. This finding showed that soldiers' life during civil war was not dry and boring, instead it was full of fun. Soldiers had time to flirt with women, according to the diary. This diary also showed that they played card game during spare time.
